The Editor Screen

auto scroll - turn on auto-scroll for hands free scrolling as the song plays.

loop - loops the current selection.

zoom - adjust the zoom slider to get the best view of the tabs.

neck display - shows the selected chord's fingering and the currently playing strings.

clip - a clip can hold a chord, an arpeggio part, or part of a solo. The fingering of the chord is displayed in the beginning of the clip. You can edit the fingering by selecting the clip and changing it in the chord panel of the toolbox. If a chord is being modified and the fingering changes the tab will be blue. If a tab is the same as the one before it, it will be a darker shade of grey. Currently playing tabs are orange.

gear menu - toggle left handed / right handed view, import or export the tabs in YouTab file format (.gtr), edit tab info, and exit the app from here.

the floating toolbox - see below for the tools in each panel of the toolbox.

public - publishes your tabs on you-tab.com so anyone can view them and play along.

player controls - play, pause, rewind and fast forward.

tuning - these setting can be changed in the 'instrument' panel in the toolbox.

part - a part is made of one or more clips. Usually a clip holds a single chord, and a part holds a chord progression. Each part is labeled with the part number, part start time, and part duration.

share your tabs on Facebook or Twitter

chord chart - displays the chords being used in the song. Currently playing chord is framed red. Next played chord is framed green.

save -saves your tabs to your YouTab account.

The Toolbox

Guitar Pro

Import GP - Use this wizard to sync a Guitar Pro file to the video.

After selecting the Guitar Pro file and the track you want to use:
• Sync the tabs to the music by clicking Sync when the music starts, then fine-tune using the slider.
• If the tabs aren't the same tempo as the tabs, tap the 'tap' button to the rhythm to sync the tabs.
• Click done!

Tap to Sync

Use Tap to Sync when writing your own tabs.

With Tap to Sync you can sync your parts and clips to the music with the tap of a key. Then input chords to your already synced clips.

You can also manually create clips with the grid function (in the edit tools), input chords into them, and then Tap to Sync.

Edit Tools

The tools in this toolbox preform a different action depending on the selection made in the tabs.

Chords

Select a clip and input the chord fingering here.

If you input more than one chord with the same name, but with different fingering, you can switch between fingerings with the 'variations' button.

Instrument

Set the capo and tuning for the song. you can select a preset tuning or set your own.

The actions performed when using toolbox tools depend on what is selected in the tabs.
Have a look at the table below to see what the tools do to different selections.

Tool Selection Action
Sync Trim / Strech any selection The trim/stretch option affect the way your tabs will behave when editing time of a part or clip (by dragging one of its borders). If it's set on stretch, then the tabs will stretch to fit their new time, so they'll become longer or shorter. If it's set to trim, then the tabs timing will not change, but this could cause loss of information where time is being edited.
Arrange New Time Part Adds a new part with the same length as selected part.
Clip Adds a new clip with the same length as selected clip.
Merge Part Will merge the selected part with the one after it.
Clip Will merge the selected clip with the one after it.
Tab Will merge the selected tab with the one after it.
Split Part Will isolate each clip in the selection to its own part.
Clip Will split the selected clip to a new part, along with the clips following it in that part.
Tab Will split the clip the selected tab is in. The new clip will start at the beginning time of the selected tab.
Grid - use the drop down menu to select the number sections you'd like, then click the 'make grid' button Part Divides the selected part into clips of equal length.
Clip Divides all the tabs in the clip into segment of equal length.
Tab Divides the selected tab into segments of equal length.
